The Cradle of Hollywood Animation

This film tells the story of how Walt Disney got his start in the animation industry in Kansas City. It tells how he progressed from working as a commercial artist at KC studios to founding the Laugh-O-gram Films Studio at 1147 E. 31st Street in Kansas CIty. There he taught himself and his staff how to create cartoons. After the Laugh-O-gram business went bankrupt, these and other KC colleagues joined Walt in Los Angeles as he started his Disney Brothers studio. From there, these animation pioneers branched out to establish the major cartoon studios of the early 20th Century: Disney, Warner Brothers, MGM Cartoons, Hanna & Barbera and DePatie-Freleng Enterprises (think Pink Panther). This film was produced by Wide Awake Films and will be shown in the renovated Laugh-O-gram building for those visiting this historic site.
